The U.S. Data Repository has been established by the United States Genealogy Network (USGenNet),Inc., to provide for long term secure storage of digital and transcribed records that are relevant to historical and genealogical research. These records have been donated for permanent online free-access.

While these records are provided with free access for everyone to use there are costs involved to make this possible. Every penny received is spent on operating expenses and equipment. USGenNet is staffed entirely by volunteers and pays no wages or salaries.
