J. Whalen, when wrecked at Grand Haven. ** Schooner W. J. Whalen was reported as a total loss but is still found on the 1878 Merchant Vessel List. Owned at Milwaukee, WI. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Detroit Free Press Sunday, 28 September, 1873 The vessel ashore at Grand Haven, reported by tele- gram as the Whiting, proves to be the W. J. Whaling, of Milwaukee, laden with salt. But one man, the cook, was drowned. At latest advises there was a prospect of her being rescued, though in a badly damaged con- dition. ===============================================================================
