              AUGUST GUENTHER,
                Fire Hero, Dead
          
           The ranks of the few remaining
        heroes of memorable fires of the
        eighties were thinned Monday with
        the death of AUGUST GUENTHER, 82,
        of 1164 Sixth st.  GUENTHER helped
        fight the Newhall House and third
        ward fires.  He was on the force
        22 years.
           Six firemen will escort his
        body to Forest Home cemetery where
        it will be cremated Thursday after-
        noon.  Funeral services will be
        held at the Foss & Son undertaking
        chapel, 730 Third st., at 2 p.m.
        Thursday.
           Surviving are his widow, Mrs.
        ANNA GUENTHER, a daughter, Mrs.
        ELLA KRAFT, and two sons, FRED and
        OTTO GUENTHER.
