Corcoran never recov- ered from the shock. His heart re- mained true to MARY MACK (sic - Mary McMahon). CORCORAN, then 22, was in the crowd at the fire when the girl to whom he was engaged appeared at a window and shouted for help. He tried vainly to break through the fire lines and get into the hotel to rescue her. He took her body back to Linden, Wis., where her family lived, for burial. A few years later he joined the Milwaukee fire department but stayed less than a year. He roamed through the west, returning here about 15 years ago. He was given an old age pension in 1931. CORCORAN collapsed on the street last Tuesday while on his way to his rooming house at 760 N. Cass st. Death was due to a heart attack.
