The Manitowoc Pilot
Thursday, 1 September, 1881

         CONVENT BURNED
         
         The convent at Silver Lake was struck by lightning
       this morning at 1:30, and was entirely destroyed. None
       of the occupants was injured. The sisters have removed
       to the priest's house, FATHER FESSLER having taken his
       residence in another house. The school will continue
       to run without intermission.
       
         All the furniture was saved. The building was insured
       for $5,000 which only partially covers the loss.
