(By Associated Press) Manitowoc - An explosion on the third floor of the mammoth plant of the Aluminum Goods Manufacturing company of this city, shortly before noon today, re- sulting in the injury of seventeen girls, four of whom may die. The explosion resulted from the clog- ging of a dust collector in the satin finishing department of the big plant, where more than three score girls were employed. When the explosion occurred the dust was set on fire and thrown upon the girls, with the result that seventeen were carried from the building with their clothing in flames. The force of the explosion blew off a door and shattered windows, and the steel frames were bulged by the force of the explosion. Fire which followed the explosion caused little damage to the plant. The city ambulance and dozens of private auto- mobiles were pressed into service to carry the injured to the hospital, whose entire lower floor was filled with the burned and bruised victims. Every physician in the city was called into service and is working at the hospital. At 1 o'clock this afternoon one girl named BUDYEZ was reported near death, and it is said at the hospital that three others would probably die. The accident is the first serious one to occur in the local plant of the Aluminum Goods company, which is the largest concern of its kind in the United States, this city being the headquarters of the company which operates plants at Two Rivers, St. Louis and Newark, N. J. ==========================================================================
