Manitowoc County Chronicle
Tuesday, 7 October 1879

         Mr. Weilep of the Ahnapee House informs us that
       DANIEL TOEBE, father of JULIUS TOEBE and MRS. FRED
       BUSCH, died in Ahnapee on Friday night last, aged
       88 years. The deceased, when a young man, was a
       soldier in the old Napoleonic wars, and participated
       in the battles of Leipsic, Austerlitz and Waterloo,
       and in consideration of his faithful service the
       old veteran received a life pension of about $65
       a year from the Prussian government. He was buried
       on Sunday last with unusual honors by his old neigh-
       bors and friends of Ahnapee, among whom he had spent
       the last twenty-five years of his life.
