The father and mother were absent, the former in the woods, chopping, the latter in town with a load of ties. The fire was well under way when discovered by a neighbor, who succeeded in removing some of the furniture, being unaware that the child was in the house. The father soon arrived, and after groping through the smoke and heat, finally found the little one under a bed that the fire had not reached - her clothing burned off, and she dead. It was evident that after her clothing had caught fire she had, in her dying agony, crawled under the bed. ===========================================================================
