M. GILLETT PASSES AWAY After an illness of more than four months during which his vitality had been completely exhausted by a struggle with typhoid fever complicated with other maladies, CHARLES MASON GILLETT, a well known young newspaper man, died Tuesday morning at 4:30 at his home in this city. From the beginning of his illness, which started with partial paralysis, there had been some fears felt as to the ultimate outcome, but death at this time was unexpected as he been thought to be improving within the past week. MR. GILLETT had been a resident of this city for nearly a score of years. Born Feb. 24, 1881, in Ogden, Ia., he came here with his parents in 1892 after having lived in a number of cities, last at Windsor, Ont., and with the exception of the times he has been away in connection with his school or journalistic work has made his home here continuously ever since. First attending the Lincoln grade school at Central Park, he graduated and entered the old Broadway high school from which he went to the Superior normal, graduating there and entering the state "U" where he completed the work with the class of 1908. In vacation time while he was still pursuing his studies, MR. GILLETT en- gaged in newspaper work, starting as a reporter on the Superior Leader and afterward working in various capacities on other head of the lake papers. About a year ago he accepted the posi- tion of university editor at Madison, having charge of the various pamphlets issued, and was holding this (illegible sentence)... Immediately after he was stricken with the partial paralysis. MR. GILLETT was brought to the home of his parents in this city where he had been during his long illness. At school he was always identified with the various societies and other organizations which make for the better- ment of the individual and the institution. At the university he joined the Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity and at home he was a promi- nent member of the Nemadji lodge, Knights of Pythias. The funeral was held from the home of the parents 814 L avenue on Thursday afternoon, and was largely attended. The floral tributes were many and beautiful. Interment took place at Greenwood cemetery. ========================================================================== If you've reached this file through a SEARCH, you can access more of our growing collection of FREE online information by going to the following URL: http://www.us-data.org/ ==========================================================================
