Great Ore Docks at Superior, Wis., Will Represent Millions of Dollars When Finished. A large force of steel workers have started from Pittsburgh to Superior, Wis., where, under the supervision of the Pittsburgh Construction Company, they will complete one of the largest steel and concrete ore docks in the northwest. The work is being done for the Great Northern Railway, which intends to increase the ship- ping capacity of that great interest in iron ore for lower lake ports. The work has thus far occupied the better part of two years, and has been confined main- ly to the foundation and clearing of the slips. The upper work of structural steel was awarded a few months ago. This is what Pittsburgh men are to erect. The structure is 1,800 feet long. On it will be constructed 302 ore bins, each with a capacity of about 500 tons. They will be loaded and unloaded by gravity. The steel required is close to 12,000 tons, all of which has been rolled by the Carnegie Steel Company. The American Bridge Company, Ambridge, Pa., fabricated the steel and shipped it to Superior. The Pittsburgh Con- struction Company has the contract for erect- ing the steel work. The total cost will be several million dollars. ==========================================================================
