HUME, editor and proprietor of the Chilton Times, is no more among the living. He died at his home in Chilton on Tuesday morning of this week, after a painful illness, in his 43d year. The funeral took place yesterday under the auspices of the Masonic fra- ternity. JOHN P. HUME'S popularity was not alone con- fined to Chilton nor to Calumet county, but he enjoyed an extensive acquaintance with many Wisconsin people, and especially among the editors of this State was he esteemed for his many good traits of character. His paper was always racy when he was at its tiller, and his readers will sadly miss the life he infused into it. We never enjoyed the pleasure of his acquaintance, except through the weekly visits of his newspaper, and through its columns we learned to esteem JOHN HUME for his proverbial kindness and magnaminity. He has often verified in his paper the statement we heard a friend of his make, "that there never was a truer, nobler or bigger-hearted Irishman than JOHN HUME." May the grass remain emerald always over this good man's grave. ===========================================================================
