Born in Vermont, Oct. 11, 1817. In 1821, he went to Hudson, N. Y., and attended school, and afterwards to New Hartford. He also went to Detroit, Mich., where he run the first engine on the Michi- gan Central Railroad. He then went to Utica and stopped in Rochester and Albany, and finally came west to Wisconsin and bought a farm in Brothertown, Calumet Co. He afterwards came to Chilton Town, and bought a farm, on which he stayed until he took a position as master mechanic at Fond du Lac, on the Northwestern Railroad. In 1861, he enlisted in the 4th Wis. V. I. In the Fall he was commissioned 2d Lieutenant, and was in command of the company at one time, but resigned on account of an injury, and came back to Chilton and bought the old farm back. Later, he moved to Chilton City, and is now a Justice of the Peace. In 1838, he married Miss CHEESEBRO. They had three girls - AMANDA A. (who became Mrs. J. L. ALLEN), HARRIETTE (who became Mrs. ELLIOTT) and Gertrude (who became Mrs. PIER). All three daughters are dead, and their children live with Mr. NEWELL. ===========================================================================
