Born in Cumberland, England, Nov. 22, 1818. He came to America in 1842, lo- cating in Providence, R. I. From thence he went to Port- land, Me., where he staid for a short time, and then went west to Keokuk, Iowa. In 1860 he went to Chicago, and graduated from the medical department of Lynn's University, and was appointed house physician in Mercy Hospital. In 1862-3 was County Physician for Cook Co., Ill. He remained practicing in the city of Chicago till 1869, when he came to Calumet County and practiced till 1879. Since that time he has dropped active practice. He has been married twice; the second time, in 1864, to Miss LEWIS, of Michigan. ===========================================================================
