         NEW POSTMASTER DIES BEFORE
           HE CAN TAKE POST
           
         A. E. GERLACH, secretary-manager of the Fountain
       City Creamery company, and a lif-long acquaintance
       of J. L. Utermoehl of La Crosse, died yesterday at
       a Winona hospital of ulceration of the kidneys. MR.
       GERLACH, who was soon to have taken over the post-
       mastership of Fountain City, was assistant in the
       Fountain City schools at the time Mr. Utermoehl
       was superintendent.
         MR. GERLACH is survived by his widow and one
       daughter. The funeral will be held at 10 o'clock
       tomorrow morning from the Catholic church at
       Fountain City. Mr. Utermoehl and W. H. Schuster
       of La Crosse will attend.
