The water ran through the main street to the depth of three or four feet. Lumber merchants were the greatest losses by the floating away of their stocks. A party consisting of JOHN BATHER, a man 50 years old, and ALBERT HOWARD, his wife and a child 4 weeks old, were drowned in attempting to ford the Waumandee creek, near Fountain City, Wis., at the time the flood was at its greatest height. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- National Democrat Mineral Point, WI Friday, 31 March, 1876 (possibly the same people?) Not long ago, Mr. JOHN BACHLER and ALBERT HAUERT, of Waumandee, left Alma for home, and when crossing the Little Waumandee Creek, near the fair grounds, were drowned. They did not know that the bridge had been swept away and drove into the rushing waters, and perished. At last accounts their bodies had not been recovered. ===========================================================================
