H. C. Cooper, Jr. & Co., Winona, MN - 1919 [page 147-148] CHARLES D. WILCOX, who owns and operates a good farm of 82 acres, in section 4, Canton township, Buffalo county, was born on this farm, Sept. 29, 1862, in the log house of his parents, ROSWELL and ALVIRA (HARDY) WILCOX. He was educated in the school of his home district, which, like most of the early schoolhouses, was a log structure. With the exception of three years, which he spent in farming in Minnesota, he has always lived on the old homestead, which finally became his property. With commendable enterprise, he has improved the place, especially the buildings. His farm is well stocked with a good grade of cattle, swine and horses, and in addition to his direct interests therein, he has a further source of profit as a shareholder in the local creamery. He has served on the school board and is a member of the Methodist church. On Aug. 25, 1888, MR. WILCOX was united in marriage with SADIE MERRILL, of Eau Claire county, Wisconsin, daughter of WILLIAM and HELEN (CARD) MERRILL, who are now living on a farm in Sawyer county, Wisconsin. She is one of a family of ten chil- dren, namely: ELIZA, CARRIE, SADIE, ZANNAH, EUNICE, MAY, CHESTER, ETHEL, LETTIE and RUTH. Mr. and Mrs. WILCOX have had four chil- dren, one of whom, CLIFFORD, is now deceased. The three living are: FLOSSIE, now MRS. WILLIAM WARD of Eau Claire, who has two children, CHARLES DEWAYNE and EARL WILLIAM; LEONA, who is an operator in the Northwestern Exchange at St. Paul, and KERMIT, who is residing at home. ===========================================================================
