H. C. Cooper, Jr. & Co., Winona, MN - 1919 [page 174-175] MICHAEL WEISENBECK, a prosperous farmer of Maxville township, Buffalo county, was born in Austria, Sept. 26, 1867, son of JOHN and FRANCISCO (SCHINDLER) WEISENBECK, who were farming people there. The father died in Austria and the mother and children subsequently came to the United States, the eldest son, FERDINAND, coming first, in 1881. Then came the mother with the rest of the family - FRANCISCO, JOSEPH, ANNA, FRANK, MICHAEL, SOPHIE and MARY. FERDINAND located in Pepin, Wis., but the others began farming in Maxville township, Buffalo county, the mother buying 200 acres of land, of which forty acres were cleared. There was also an old log building on the place. Their stock when they began operations consisted of one horse, a cow and a calf. On this farm the mother spent her life, dying May 23, 1917, at the age of 78 years. MICHAEL WEISENBECK remained with his mother for ten years and then began farming for himself in Maxville township with 220 acres of land, on which there was an old log barn. The latter he has since improved and enlarged to the size of 36 by 66 feet, it being now a good, substantial structure with 18-foot posts. He has also erected other good buildings. In 1912 he built a modern red brick residence, of nine rooms, with bath, hot water heat, and running water. He has increased the size of his farm to 740 acres and is now raising Durham Shorthorn cattle, Percheron horses and Oxford sheep. He is also a share- holder in the Burnside creamery and in the Nelson Township Telephone Company. For twenty years he has served as a member of the creamery board of directors. MR. WEISENBECK professes the religious faith of his parents, who were Catholics. He was married May 29, 1893, to ANNA FEDIE, a daughter of PHIL- LIP and THESSA FEDIE, of Lima township, Pepin county. He and his wife are the parents of fourteen children; EMILIA, MARY, LUCY, PHILLIP, MICHAEL, MATSON, RHODA, MARGARET, JULIUS, WILLIAM, GERTRUDE, WALTER, ADELINE and HELEN. all of whom are living. EMILIA married FRANK WEBER of Albany township, Pepin county, and MARY married HENRY WEBER of the same town- ship. MR. WEISENBECK is one of the successful men of Max- ville township, a result which he has achieved by long and persevering effort. As a good citizen, he is interested in everything that concerns the general welfare of the commun- ity in which he lives and his aid and influence can always be depended upon in behalf of a worthy cause. He and his wife and family have long occupied a respected place in the township. ===========================================================================
