H. C. Cooper, Jr. & Co., Winona, MN - 1919 [page 174] FERDINAND WEISENBECK, a considerable land owner in Maxville township, Buffalo county, where he is engaged in farming pur- suits, including stock raising, was born in Austria, Dec. 28, 1867, son of JOHN and FRANCISCO (SCHINDLER) WEISENBECK. His father dying in Austria, FERDINAND, who was the eldest son, left home in 1881 for the United States, locating in Pepin, Wis. He was followed by the rest of the family, including the mother and six children - FRANCISCO, JOSEPH, ANNA, FRANK, MICHAEL and SOPHIE - who, however, settled in Maxville town- ship, Buffalo county, where MRS. WEISENBECK bought 200 acres of land and farmed it with the assistance of her resident children. There she died in 1917 at the age of 78 years. FERDINAND was 21 years of age when he arrived in this country. He had attended school in Austria, but could not speak English. For some time he worked in Lima township, Pepin county, but later joined the rest of the family and worked with them until 1894, when by making proper financial arrangements with the others he became proprietor of the homestead, which he has since operated, and has built up in size until the farm now contains between 400 and 500 acres, and is well provided with good buildings. Both in general farming and as a breeder of Durham cattle and a good grade of horses and swine, he has made continued progress, endeavoring constantly to improve his stock. He is also a shareholder in the Burnside creamery. He has served one term on his district school board and is a member of the Catholic church at Durand. MR. WEISENBECK was married, Feb. 28, 1892, to ROSA SAPELKO, who was born in Aus- tria, Aug. 4, 1867, daughter of MICHAEL and HANNAH SAPELKO. Her parents, also natives of Austria, settled in Lima town- ship, Pepin county, where they spent the latter part of their lives. They had four children - MICHAEL, MARY, FRANCIS and ROSA - all born in Austria. Mr. and Mrs. WEISENBECK have three children: FREDERICK, JOSEPH and JOHANN. JOSEPH married BARLOSA BROUKNIER and has a daughter, ROSA MARY. ===========================================================================
