H. C. Cooper, Jr. & Co., Winona, MN - 1919 [page 193] ULRICH WALD, JR., who is connected with the Alma (Buffalo county) post office as rural mail carrier, was born in Alma township, Oct. 13, 1857, son of ULRICH, SR., and AGNES (READY) WALD, the scene of his birth being the original log cabin built by the father on the family homestead in Mill Creek valley, three miles east of Alma village. His parents being pioneers, his educational opportunities were limited, but in such little time as he had for self improvement he managed to acquire the rudiments of knowledge. Brought up on the farm, he naturally took to agriculture as his occupation, he and his brother JOHN renting a farm for some five years in Alma township. Later they bought an improved farm of 320 acres, also in this township, where they carried on general farming successfully, raising a good grade of stock, besides the usual crops. After being thus occupied until 1901, or thereabouts, MR. WALD sold out his agricultural interests, and came to Alma, where he has since been connected with the post office, as above mentioned. While on the farm he served as school clerk of his district and was supervisor for two years. MR. WALD was married in 1888 to MARY KLEINER, daughter of PETER and URSULA KLEINER, her par- ents being respectively of German and Swiss nationality. They settled in this county, where MR. KLEINER followed the trade of miller. To Mr. and Mrs. WALD two children have been born, ORMA and EDNA, both of whom are now teachers in Buffalo county. In addition to his mail route MR. WALD is janitor of the Buffalo county training school. ===========================================================================
