Cooper, Jr. & Co., Winona, MN - 1919 [page 197-198] FRANK SCHWEITZER, a typical representative of the farming in- terests of Buffalo county, residing in section 13, Alma township, was born in Alma township, Feb. 3, 1877, son of CHRISTIAN and FRANCES (ULRICH) SCHWEITZER. The parents were natives of Switzer- land, the father born Jan. 28, 1827, and the mother Aug. 10, 1836. The former came to the United States in 1850 and engaged in farm- ing in Alma township. He served in the Union army during the lat- ter part of the Civil War, enlisting in Company K, 48th Wisconsin Infantry, in which he was a corporal, and being mustered out and honorably discharged in the spring of 1866. He died in Alma City at the age of 85 years, in 1912. His wife is still living and makes her home with her son FRANK. CHRISTIAN and FRANCES SCHWEIT- ZER had eight children; FRANK, who died at the age of 14 years; JOHN, who died at the age of 12 years; LOUISA, who died at the age of 8 years; CHRISTIAN, JR., born June 16, 1867; FRED, born Feb. 4, 1872; FRANCES, born Nov. 24, 1870; FRANK, born Feb. 3, 1877, and LOUISA, born Jan. 26, 1879. FRANK SCHWEITZER acquired his education in the schools of Alma, Buffalo county, and assisted his father on the home farm until 1903, when he bought the place, and has since operated it on his own account. It is a farm of 178 acres, of which about 100 acres are cleared, the rest being woodland and pasture. The farmhouse contains eight rooms, and in 1913 MR. SCHWEITZER built a barn 36 by 76 feet in size, with a stone basement floor. He has made various other improvements on the place, including the rebuilding of the house, and is doing a general farming business, his special- ties being dairying and the raising of swine. MR. SCHWEITZER was married Nov. 29, 1900, to MAGDALENA NOLL, who was born in La Crosse, March 25, 1879, daughter of PETER and THERESA (KRISMER) NOLL. Her father, born in Germany in 1815, died in Belvidere township at the age of 85 years. Her mother, a native of Switzerland, is still living. PETER NOLL was three times married, THERESA KRISMER being his third wife. By his first wife, whose maiden name was MATILDA HOWE, he had ten children; by his second wife, MISS SNYDER, he had one, while his children by his third wife, THERESA KRISMER, were: MAGDALENA, wife of the subject of this sketch; PETER, born April 1, 1882; HENRY, born in 1883, who died at the age of 21 years; LOUIS, born March 18, 1884; JOHN, born Feb. 27, 1886; CARRIE, born April 24, 1887; FRANK, born Nov. 24, 1889; EDWARD, born Oct. 6, 1892, and CLEMENCE, born Jan. 11, 1895. MR. NOLL was engaged in farming in Indiana and Minnesota for some time, and for 23 years farmed in Wisconsin, and was widely respected as an industrious and enter- prising man, a good neighbor and reliable citizen. To Mr. and Mrs. FRANK SCHWEITZER four children have been born: MARCELLA, Oct. 4, 1901; HARVEY. July 12, 1904; LAVINA, Feb. 13, 1907, and WILMA, May 21, 1910. All are residing at home with their parents, and the three last mentioned are attending school. ===========================================================================
