ROELLICH, the enterprising and well to do proprietor of a farm of 241 acres in Alma township, Buffalo county, having his residence in section 6, was born in town Alma Oct. 18, 1882, son of WENZEL and THERESA (KRAIBICH) ROELLICH. His parents were engaged in farming in 1877, but are now living in the city of La Crosse. They had a family of 13 children, two of whom died. The record in brief is as follows: ANNA, who married C. F. PASSOW; MARY, who became the wife of JACOB GROSS; LOUIS, who died in Sher- wood, Ore.; EMELIA, who married FRED GROSS; GUSTAV, subject of this sketch; EMMA, who is the wife of OTIS BADLEY, and is living in Washington; EDWIN, also residing in Washington; LILLIAN, who married HERBERT SCHNEIDER and is a resident of Alberta, Canada; JOHN, who married LUCIE BURGMIER and resides in La Crosse; WENZEL, who is a resident of the state of Washington; FRANCES, who married JOHN KUNTER; PAULINE, who is residing at home; and a son who died young. GUSTAV F. ROELLICH up to the age of 26 years was engaged in miscellaneous occupations. He then began his present independent career as a farmer by purchasing the farm on which he now resides, which has an area of 241 acres, of which 150 acres are cleared, the rest being in pasture and timber. Though he does general farm- ing, raising grain, hay and stock, his chief industries are dairy- ing and the raising of swine. His hogs are of the Chester-White variety and are well graded. MR. ROELLICH has a good set of build- ings, his house being a new, seven-room structure, his granary being also new, and his barn, which has a cement floor, measuring 36 by 80 feet. His equipment also includes a feed grinder and a wood sawing outfit. In addition to his direct farming interests he is also one of the twelve owners of the cheese factory. By thrift and industry he has made good progress financially and is numbered among the substantial citizens of his township. MR. ROELLICH was married Jan. 28, 1904, to EMELIA MUELLER, who was born in town of Lincoln, March 21, 1881, daughter of JOHN and CAROLINE (BALKS) MUELLER. Her parents, who were farmers in town of Alma, have rented their farm and retired. To them seven children were born: ALWINE, who married SIMON VOLLMER; EMELIA (MRS. ROELLICH) ; ALBERTINA, who married GUSTAV PUTZIER; MOLLIE, who married EDMOND KREIBICH; ROBERT, who is a resident of Minnea- polis, and who married HENRIETTA ROEDESKE; ELSIE, who is single and lives in Winona; and HILDA, who married ELMER VOGL, and who is living in Alma township.
