H. C. Cooper, Jr. & Co., Winona, MN - 1919 [page 164-165] EPHRAIM A. PARISH, who was a pioneer, both of Pepin and Buffalo counties, spending most of his life, after coming to this region, in the latter, was born in Solon township, Portage county, Ohio, Dec. 13, 1823. In early manhood he learned the trade of tailor, which he followed for awhile in his native state. In 1856 he came from Cleveland, Ohio, to Green Bay, Wis., making the trip, which took three weeks, by the Great Lakes. From Green Bay he drove with a horse team to Lima township, Pepin county, which region was then a wilderness. He and his wife - for he had already married, but at this time had no children - resided in Pepin county for two or three years, at the end of which time they re- turned to Ohio. In 1862 they came back to Wisconsin, but this time located in Bear Creek Valley, Buffalo county. Apparently MR. PARISH was not wholly satisfied with con- ditions, for after a while, in the spring of 1864, he again returned to Ohio. In 1865, however, he came for the third time to Wisconsin, and once again located in the Bear Creek Valley, where he remained subsequently until his death, Feb. 14, 1906. While residing in Ohio he was, for several years, engaged in the cattle business. At Bear Creek, Buffalo county, where he settled, he cleared 240 acres of land. The farm is now owned by his son, GUY B., and is one of the best in the county. MR. PARISH was a Democrat in politics, but voted for the man rather than for the party. He was reared in the Presbyterian faith. MR. PARISH first married a MISS PETTIBONE, of which union there were two children: LILLIA, who was born in Kent, Ohio, married CHARLES FESSENDEN, and died in 1917; and MARTHA C., born in Kent, Ohio, who is now MRS. ARTHUR FOX of Cheyenne, Wyo. By MR. PARISH'S second marriage, to CORNELIA J. BREWSTER, he had four children; GENIO, born at Aurora, Ohio, Oct. 8, 1858, now a prosperous farmer in Mondovi township, Buffalo county; Guy B., born on Bear Creek, Buffalo county, Jan. 9, 1867, who is the present proprietor of the old homestead; HARRIET O., born at Bear Creek, Sept. 18, 1868, now the wife of J. H. CRAW- FORD; and ADDIS E., born at Buffalo Creek, May 24, 1870, who resides at Lindsay, Mont. Transcriber's Note: His first marriage was recorded in Portage county, Ohio, where, on 18 October, 1845, he married CORINTHA PETTIBONE. She was the daughter of JACOB W. and MARTHA (TINKER) PETTIBONE. She died Jan. 30, 1855 and is reportedly buried in the Pioneer Cemetery, Mantua Center, Portage Co., OH. ===========================================================================
