NESS, a well-to-do farmer of Modena township, Buf- falo county, was born in section 27, this township, May 4, 1883, son of JOHN T. and CHRISTIANA (NELSON) NESS. As a youth he at- tended school in Church valley and learned the art and science of farming on the parental homestead. After working out for six years he bought his present farm of 160 acres in section 22, Modena township, and has since improved it. As a general farmer and stock raiser he has been successful. His hogs are of the Poland-China breed and his cattle and horses of good quality. He is also a shareholder in the Modena creamery and in the Far' mers' State Bank of Modena. A member of the Norwegian Lutheran church, he has served two years as one of its officers. MR. NESS married ANNA NELSON, a native of Buffalo county and daughter of KNUTE and SARAH (OLSON) NELSON, and he and his wife have two children: SYLVIA, born Oct. 25, 1911, and LESLIE, born Oct. 21, 1916. ===========================================================================
