         JOHN MICHAEL, a prosperous farmer and land owner of Alma town-
       ship, Buffalo Co., was born May 19, 1870, son of JOHN and RICA
       (ALLITZ) MICHAEL. The father was born in Germany, Nov. 16, 1835,
       and the mother in Germany, Aug. 30, 1838. He died May 5, 1903.
       MRS. MICHAEL is still living and resides with her son TOM MICH-
       AEL in Alma township. They had a family of eleven children, of
       whom six are now living. JOHN MICHAEL, who was the sixth born
       child of his parents, resided with them until he was 24 years
       old, in his boyhood days attending the district school. He then
       started out in life for himself, buying a farm of 200 acres in
       section ____, Alma township, of which 80 acres are now clear,
       and which is being operated by his son-in-law, SELMER BRUNNER.
       The farm on which he, himself, is living was purchased by him
       Oct. 12, 1916, and contains 143 1/2 acres, of which about 60
       acres are cleared. It is provided with good buildings, and MR.
       MICHAEL is doing a successful general farming business, giving
       his chief attention to dairying and hog raising. MR. MICHAEL 
       was married Dec. 28, 1895, to TRACEY MEILE, who was born Jan.
       8, 1877, daughter of NICHOLAS and MARY (BERNETT) MEILE, of
       Alma township. Her father is still living, being now a resi-
       dent of Montana; her mother died in June, 1906. Their daugh-
       ter TRACEY was the third born in a famil of 13 children, of
       whom ten are now living. Mr. and Mrs. MICHAEL are the parents
       of one child; MELVINA, who was born Sept. 15, 1896. On May
       20, 1916, she married SELMER BRUNNER, and they hava a son,
       KENNETH, who was born March 29, 1917.
