In 1857, he came to America with his parents. They located in La Crosse County on a farm, and the subject of this sketch, having learned the trade of blacksmithing in the old country, worked at it here in different places. In 1863 he came to Fountain City, where he worked for JACOB STULL for seven years, and then started a shop for himself. He is a member of the A.O.U.W., Fountain City Lodge No. 13. He was married to ANNIE HERDICK, who is also a native of Germany. They have six children, three sons and three daughters. ===========================================================================
