KNOSPE, who is numbered among the successful farmers of Alma township, Buffalo county, a resident of section 34, was born in Town Lincoln, Oct. 24, 1875, son of FRED, SR., and CARO- LINE (KNOSPE) KNOSPE. The parents were married in Germany, where the father was born February 15, 1834, and the mother February 2, 1836. Coming to the United States about 1872, they located in Lincoln township and then moved to Alma township, Buffalo county, in 1877, the farm on which they lived being now occupied by their son, HERMAN. FRED KNOSPE, SR., died Sept. 2, 1902, and his wife Feb. 17, 1912. They had seven children, one of whom, WILLIAM, died at the age of 14 years. The others were CHARLES, died in 1918; AUGUSTA, wife of HERMAN SCHROEDER; MARY, wife of FRED ROSE- NOW; ALWINA, who died at the age of 16 years; FRED W., subject of this sketch, and HERMAN, now on the home farm. FRED W. KNOSPE spent his boyhood and early youth in attending school and work- ing on the home farm as his father's assistant. At the age of 24 years he married and rented a farm in Alma township (section 34), which he operated for five years. He then became manager of the farm on which he now lives and which contains 160 acres, 100 acres being cleared. MR. KNOSPE raises both grain and stock, his chief industries, however, being dairying and the raising of swine. His farm is provided with good buildings and equipement and its fertile soil yields good returns for the labor expended on it. MR. KNOSPE has served as clerk of the school district and at the present time is one of the directors. He was married, Oct. 24, 1900, to CLARA MUEHLEISEN, who was born in Belvidere township, Feb. 5, 1880, daughter of GEORGE and MARGUERITE (KEILHOLTZ) MUEHLEISEN. Her father, born in Germany, Sept. 11, 1834, is now living at Tell; he is a widower, his wife having died at the age of 68 years. Their family contained nine children; LOUIS, who married ROSETTA MERRIFIELD and is now living in Washington; CORA, who married JACOB KELLAR and lives in Belvidere, Buffalo county; MARGARET, wife of ANTOINE CASSELLA and a resident of Kansas; HENRY, who married TILLIE ZUEHLKE and resides in Winona, Minn.; GEORGE, who married CORA HOBDE and lives in Belvidere; SUSANNA, who died at the age of three years; SUSAN, who married PHILIP GROSS; CLARA, now MRS. FRED W. KNOSPE; and GOTTLIEB, who is unmarried and resides at Tell, Wis. Mr. and Mrs. KNOSPE have had three children; ESTHER, born Oct. 5, 1901, who is residing at home; RONALD FRED, born June 26, 1905, who died May 6, 1907; and MILDRED ROSE, born Oct. 23, 1908, who is attending school.
