H. C. Cooper, Jr. & Co., Winona, MN - 1919 [page 177] SEBASTIAN KATIEPOLT, who is engaged in operating the old home- stead farm of his parents in Nelson township, of which farm he is now the owner, was born in Sauk county, Wisconsin, Feb. 21, 1869, son os SEBASTIAN, SR., and LUCY KATIEPOLT. He was six or seven years old when his parents with their large family of ten children, drove from Sauk county to Buffalo county in an emigrant wagon pulled by a team of horses. The tract of 200 acres on which they located, and which now constitutes the farm of our subject, was mostly wild, some six or seven acres, however, having been cleared. There was also a log building on the place, which had been erected by the previous owner and in which the family took up their abode. Later the father built a frame house and barn. Although he had but few resources when he started, he finally became the owner of between four hundred and five hundred acres of land. He also became a prominent citizen of the township, holding official position on the town and school boards. His earthly life ended at the age of 78 years, but his wife is still living and resides in Alma, being now 73 years old. SEBASTIAN KATIEPOLT, JR., the direct subject of this sketch, acquired his elementary education in the district school, and afterwards attended the Alma high school for a year or so. For a year or two subsequently he followed the carpenter's trade, after which he took over the parental homestead, of which he has since been the proprietor. His stock includes registered Hereford cattle and a good grade of Jersey Red hogs and Per- cheron horses. He is a member of the German Reformed church. MR. KATIEPOLT was married, May 25, 1904, to LYDIA JOHNSON, who was born in Alma township, this county, daughter of PAULASKA JOHNSON. He and his wife have four children: GOLDEAN, born Aug. 21, 1905; LUELL, born March 3, 1908; ROSA, born June 27, 1909, and BERNICE, born Sept. 7. 1910. ===========================================================================
