H. C. Cooper, Jr. & Co., Winona, MN - 1919 [page 204-205] DAVID JOST, a prosperous farmer residing on the old JOST home- stead in section 31, Almaa township, Buffalo county, was born on the homestead in Alma township, Feb. 19, 1864, son of DAVID and URSINA (KUENZLER) JOST. The parents were natives of Switzerland, but were married in the United States, settling in Alma township, Buffalo county, Wisconsin, in 1856. Both are now deceased. They had nine children: JOHN, born April 18, 1858, who married ANNE AMERLAND and resides in Wabasha, Minnesota; ANNA, born Nov. 22, 1860, who became the wife of BERNHARDT SENN and died in 1904; PAUL, born Sept. 24, 1861, who married URSULA ACCOLA and died in January, 1915; DAVID, whose name appears at the head of this sketch; BARTLY, born April 4, 1866, who married EMMA MUELLER and is now living in the city of Alma; MARGUERITE, born March 10, 1868, is the wife of J. M. LEONHARDY and resides in Alma; MARY, born Dec. 16, 1870, who is unmarried and resides with her brother DAVID; NICHOLAS, born June 21, 1873, who is single and resides with his brother DAVID on the homestead, and AUGUST, born Aug. 28, 1875, who married DELA RUMMEL and is living in Alma. DAVID JOST was brought up on his parents' homestead on which he now resides, and which his brother BARTLY operated under rental from their father for 24 years. In 1904 it was purchased from the estate by BARTLY and DAVID JOST. It has a total area of 550 acres, of which 210 acres are cleared, the rest being in woodland. Dairying and hog raising are the chief industries carried on, though attention is given to other branches of farming. The buildings are good, the barn measuring 40 by 78 feet, with basement, and there is also a modern hog barn with cement floors, 26 by 46 feet in size, while the farm residence is a good ten-room house. MR. JOST has a good herd of graded cows and his herd of swine are headed by a full- blooded Poland-China boar. On June 16, 1900, MR. JOST was united in marriage with AUGUSTA GIESE, who was born in Germany, Sept. 22, 1867, daughter of FREDERICK and HENRIETTA (WEIDLING) GEISE. Her parents, who were natives of Germany, are now deceased. MRS. JOST died March 19, 1910. She had been the mother of two children: MABEL MARIE, born June 14, 1901, and LEONA HENRIETTA, born May 1, 1903, both of whom are residing at home with their father. MR. JOST is a member of the Reformed church. The farm of 550 acres is now owned by BARTLETT and DAVID JOST, carried on by DAVID. ===========================================================================
