H. C. Cooper, Jr. & Co., Winona, MN - 1919 [page 204] FRANK HOLTHAUS, proprietor of a farm of 120 acres in Alma town- ship, Buffalo county, was born in Grant county, Wisconsin, Oct. 19, 1864, son of WILLIAM and CATHERINE (MARX) HOLTHAUS. His mother was previously the wife of NICHOLAS YOST and by him had four children: CHRIST, JACOB and GEORGE, who are now deceased, and MAGGIE, who mar- ried MORRIS QUICK, are living in Grant county, Wisconsin. WILLIAM and CATHERINE HOLTHAUS had but one child, FRANK. The latter resided on a farm in Grant county until 1884, when he came to Buffalo county with his mother, settling on the farm on which he now lives, and which became his property on his mother's death in 1908. Of the 120 acres which comprise it, 60 acres are cleared. On account of his health, which is affected by rheumatism, MR. HOLTHAUS is now doing little active work, renting most of his land out to neighbors. He is a member of the Reformed church, and was formerly town treasurer for five years. He has never married. ===========================================================================
