H. C. Cooper, Jr. & Co., Winona, MN - 1919 [page 176-177] CHARLES DAVID HETRICK, a substantial citizen of Nelson township, Buffalo county, where he is proprietor of a thriving farm, was born in this township, Dec. 7, 1869, in the log house of his parents GEORGE D. and MATILDA HETRICK. His youthful days were spent on the home farm in the usual pioneer occupations, which meant an abundance of hard work, but he was sent to school and acquired the rudiments of an English education. At the age of 22 years he went to Erie, N.D., where he found employment on farms for eleven successive summers. Then returning to Nelson township, he married SOPHIA, a native of this township, and daughter of WILLIAM and MARY CURTIS. Locating at Wabasha, Minn., with his bride, he there entered the employ of the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railway, and was em- ployed in bridge work for some five or six years thereafter. At the end of that period he returned again to Nelson township and for two years was engaged in operating the old homestead of his parents. He then came to the CHRISTIE CASTELBURG farm on which he now resides, and which he is operating with profitable results, keeping a good grade of stock, including Durham cattle. He has served as a member of the school board and is a man who takes a lively interest in all projects for the moral or material bene- fit of the community in which he resides. He and his wife, who has been a potent factor in his prosperity, are surroundec by an interesting family of nine children, whose names are respectively: WILLIAM, EDITH, FLOYD, DAVID, GRACE, RUTH and RALPH (twins), ADELINE and MARIE. ===========================================================================
