In 1852, he came to the United States, locating at Galena, Ill., where he worked in a flouring mill, and afterwards in the lead mines. In 1855, he came to Fountain City, and in 1856, returned to Galena and bought a yoke of oxen, which he brought up the river on a boat to Fountain City, and com- menced breaking a farm. In 1858, he was mail agent from Fountain City to St. Croix, a distance of 150 miles by land. He afterwards followed teaming until 1874, when he commenced in his present business. He has been Town Treasurer of Fountain City, also a member of Town Board for two terms, and Constable, and is a member of the Catholic Church. He was married in 1857, to SOPHIA MULTHAUP, who was born in Hanover, Germany. They have eight children - MATILDA, MARY, ELIZABETH, TRACY, ROSA, ADOLPH, LENA and RAGENA. ===========================================================================
