H. C. Cooper, Jr. & Co., Winona, MN - 1919 [page 163-164] MARTIN BUCHLI, formerly a well-known and respected farmer of Montana township, Buffalo county, but now deceased, was born in Switzerland, in January, 1866. He was eight years old when his father died, and he remained in his native land until 1891, when he came to the United States and settled in Montana township, Buffalo county, Wisconsin, where, for the first two years he worked out for others. Then, on March 2, 1893, he was married to LOUISA FLORIN, who was born Sept. 28, 1863, daughter of ANDREW and SUSAN (SCHMANG) FLORIN, also natives of that country, who came to the United States and engaged in farming. Both are now deceased. They had eight children: JOSEPH, PETER, MAGGIE, MARY, LOUISA, CAROLINA, LOUIS and ANNA, the last mentioned of whom died in Canada. After their marriage MARTIN BUCHLI and his wife settled on the farm, in section 23, Montana township, on which she still resides, and on which he lived until his death, Dec. 13, 1908. It con- tains 260 acres, of which 160 acres are now cleared. Here he spent his time in its cultivation and improvement, and was a widely known and respected citizen, whose passing away was an event much regretted. Since then his wife has conducted the farm with the assistance of her children. Four years ago she bought an adjoining farm containing 125 acres, of which 95 acres is still timbered. MRS. BUCHLI does mixed farming, mainly dairying and hog raising, keeping a herd of Holstein cattle. She raises both stock and grain for the market and is conducting a successful business, showing ability as a practical farmer. Her barn measures 104 by 30 feet, and is provided with a stone basement. In company with two of her neighbors she owns a threshing outfit, and she is herself a stockholder in the Garden Valley Creamery. Of her marriage with MR. BUCHLI four children were born: ANNA, Feb. 2, 1894, who married NICHOLAS DASHER; ARTHUR, Sept. 29, 1897, who is assisting his mother on the farm; ELMER, Oct. 2, 1898, who is attending high school in Arcadia, and LOUIS, Jan. 24, 1899, who is working on the farm. ===========================================================================
