H. C. Cooper, Jr. & Co., Winona, MN - 1919 [page 199] HENRY C. BORGWARDT, who is connected with the post office at Alma, Buffalo county, as rural mail carrier, after a number of years spent in successful agriculture, was born in Alma town- ship, this county, son of FREDERICK and REKA (DUERKOPF) BORG- WARDT, the date of his birth being Oct. 1, 1877. He grew to manhood on his parents' farm, first attending district school and afterwards the normal school at River Falls. The next five years of his life were spent as a teacher in Buffalo county, three years of the time in Alma township, and two in Lincoln township. In the summer vacations he worked at farming. Having saved some money, he then bought a farm of 276 acres in Alma township, an improved place, on which he carried on general agriculture for three years with profitable results. At the end of that time he sold the greater part of the farm, re- taining only 40 acres of the land, which he still owns. At the time he gave up the farm he became connected with the rural mail service, working on Route No. 1 as carrier until the local post office was done away with, the route becoming No. 3 of the Alma post office. On that he worked for six years, and was then transferred to Route No. 1, out of Alma, at which time he took up his residence in the city. He was a stockholder in the Wenger Cheese Factory, of which he was formerly presi- dent. MR. BORGWARDT was married, Sept. 16, 1905, to LILLIAN FIMIAN, who was born in Alma township, daughter of GEORGE and LUCY (OBRECHT) FIMIAN. He and his wife have one child, GEORGE, who was born Feb. 10, 1911. ===========================================================================
