H. C. Cooper, Jr. & Co., Winona, MN - 1919 [page 131-132] FRED J. BOHRI, president of the First State Bank of Fountain City, and a member of the firm of F. BOHRI & Sons, merchants and grain dealers, was born in Fountain City, Wis., Aug. 20, 1870, son of FREDERICK and LENA (KRUMDICK) BOHRI. He was educated partly in the city of his birth, first attending the graded school, and graduating from the Fountain City high school in the class of 1887. He then entered the high school at Winona, Minn., and was graduated therefrom in 1889. Thus mentally equipped, he accepted a position as cashier of the Farmers' State Bank at Willow Lake, S. D., where he remained until the death of his uncle, CHRISTIAN BOHRI, who was a partner with FREDERICK BOHRI, father of the sub- ject of this sketch, in the mercantile business at Fountain City. This event occurred in 1891, and FRED J. then returned to Foun- tain City and became a partner with his father in the mercantile and grain business, the firm name becoming F. BOHRI & Son. In 1901 HARRY E., the younger brother of FRED J., became a partner, since which time the firm has conducted business under the style of F. BOHRI & Sons. As general merchants and grain dealers they have built up a large trade and gained an enviable reputation for honest dealing and successful enterprise. In addition to the business mentioned, they are also the proprietors of a feed mill and elevator. In 1906, FRED J. BOHRI, in association with others, organized the First State Bank of Fountain City, becoming its president, a position which he still holds. For the same period his brother, H. E. BOHRI, has been cashier of the institution, and C. A. KIRCHNER vice president. The assistant cashier is J. A. OENNING. FRED J. has also served as president of the Business Men's Association of Fountain City, and has been treasurer of the Fountain City Co-operative Creamery since its organization. He has also for several years been treasurer of the board of education of the city. His services in political life have been numerous and varied. For several years he was a member of the county board, and served efficiently as chairman of the Buffalo County Republican Committee. He also served several times as mayor of Fountain City and as a member of the council. In 1898, 1900, 1902 and 1904 he was delegate to the Republican State con- ventions, and in 1904 was elected on the Republican ticket as assemblyman, serving with credit for one term, since which time he has given his attention to his business interests. Enterprising and public-spirited, he has been a strong supporter of every move- ment for the betterment of his city and county, and is widely recognized as a representative citizen of both. Since the begin- ning of the present war, he has served the government as a member of the Buffalo County Local Exemption Board. Mr. BOHRI was married Sept. 14, 1897, to AUGUSTA SCHUSTER, of Fountain City. He and his wife are the parents of three children: WALDEMAR, born Jan. 31, 1900, who is now a senior student in the Fountain City high school; ETHEL A., born Oct. 18, 1902, also a student in the same high school; and OLIVIA M., born Oct. 9, 1907. ===========================================================================
