Cooper, Jr. & Co., Winona, MN - 1919 [page 134] ALEXANDER BAECHLER, who is prosperously engaged in the imple- ment business in Fountain City, Buffalo county, was born on a pioneer farm in Waumandee township, Sept. 13, 1859, son of JOHN, SR., and ANNA (HUTTLE) BAECHLER. He attended school in his native township and also at Fountain City, and after helping his father to develop the home farm, engaged in selling machinery for a while. He then became clerk for BOHRI Brothers, merchants of Fountain City, with whom he remained for ten years, after which, for the next five years he conducted a meat market and shipped stock. He then engaged in the implement business, being for twelve years associated there- in with his brother JOHN, but since 1913 has been alone. As one of the leading citizens of this community, he has served as alderman and for two terms as a member of the council. He has also held the office of deputy sheriff of the county for fourteen years. He is a member of the Evangelical church. On Jan. 2, 1891, ALEXANDER BAECHLER was united in marriage with EMMA SCHLOSSTEIN, of Fountain City, daughter of GEORGE and ANNA (RAHM) SCHLOSSTEIN, her father, a car- penter by trade, being a pioneer of this section, who came here from Switzerland. Mr. and Mrs. ALEXANDER BAECHLER are the parents of six children: MALINDA, wife of ROY HUBER, of Glasgow, Mont., both she and her husband being teachers; and ALEXANDER, ROY, CLARENCE, HESTER and MYRON, residing at home, except that ROY is now a teacher at Texarkana, Texas. ===========================================================================
