H. C. Cooper, Jr. & Co., Winona, MN - 1919 [page 291-292] JOSEPH BAADER, a well known and prosperous farmer of Nelson township, was born in the log house of his parents, ANTON and EVA (HUELLER) BAADER, in section 18, this township, July 3, 1855. His youthful days were spent on the home farm amid pioneer surround- ings, his educational opportunities being very limited, as he was twelve years old before a schoolhouse was built in his section. His education was, therefore, mostly acquired through home study. When old enough he began working on the river, and was thus occu- pied for fifteen seasons. He then took land on Modena Bluff, where he resided for twenty-three years and developed a farm from the wild land. At the end of that time he removed to his present place in section 13, the tract containing 150 acres. It was also provided with an old log building. Here also he has developed a good farm, well provided with substantial buildings, and operated on a pro- fitable basis. He keeps good stock and the products of his farm are of a high grade. He has served as pathmaster and is a man who takes a warm interest in the welfare of the community in which he lives, being always ready to promote a worthy cause. A Catholic in religion, he attends church in Nelson township. MR. BAADER was mar- ried in 1879, to MARGARET FRUMMEL, who was born in Iowa, daughter of FRED and MARY FRUMMEL, who moved from that state to this town- ship. He and his wife have had five children: LOUISA, CLARA, ROSA, JOHN and JOSEPH. LOUISA married MICHAEL KENDHAMMER, and is now deceased, with her husband. They left three children, EDWARD, WILLIAM and CARL, who reside with MR. BAADER. ===========================================================================
