H. C. Cooper, Jr. & Co., Winona, MN - 1919 [page 389-390] ANDREAS ARMS, one of the sturdy pioneers of Cross township, Buffalo county, was born in Switzerland, March 20, 1820. He was married in his native land to ANNA JENAL, and in 1852 came to the United States, locating first at Holmes' Landing, now Fountain City, where he remained until 1854 or 1856. He then settled in Cross township on a tract of wild land, and as time went on accumulated 304 acres in sections 15, 14, 11 and 10, also erecting good buildings, all of which, however, were des- troyed by a cyclone in 1903, except the house. After the death of his first wife he married MARY HUBNER, who is still living, being now over 70 years of age. MR. ARMS attained the venerable age of 94 years, passing away December 4, 1914. By his first wife he had three children: LAWRENCE, KATE and DORA; and by his second wife eight, MARY, ANDREW, CASPAR, ANNA, MAGGIE, URSINA, OTTO and EDWARD. After his death the farm passed through a num- ber of hands, being first bought by his son CASPAR, who rebuilt the barns. CASPAR then sold it to JOHN BAUMGARTNER of Winona, who in turn sold it to JOHN J VAN FLEEt. The latter sold it to OSCAR VAN FLEET, from whom it was purchased by MR. ARMS' son EDWARD in October, 1916, he being the present owner. ===========================================================================
