H. C. Cooper, Jr. & Co., Winona, MN - 1919 [page 168-169] JAMES ALLISON, proprietor of the old ALLISON homestead in section 15, Maxville township, Buffalo county, was born in a log house on the farm he now owns, July 25, 1858, son of WILLIAM and MARY (CROCKETT) ALLISON. He was educated in the district school and at Durand high school and subsequently taught district school for two years. Aside from that occu- pation, he has given his whole attention to farming, buying the home farm after the death of his parents. This he has since increased in size from 700 to 820 acres. He formerly raised Jersey cattle, and at one time had a large herd, but now raises Aberdeen Angus pure-bred cattle and large pure- bred Poland-China hogs, with a good grade of Percheron horses. He also used to conduct a private creamery and is now a patron of the local creamery and an advocate of co-operative plants of that kind. MR. ALLISON is active in church work and has served as Sunday school superintendent for twenty-five years. He was chairman of the township board for seven or eight years, township clerk one year, and has served on the school board. In 1912-13 he was representative to the state legislature from Buffalo county and while there was chairman of the Excises and Fees Committees. As such he took a firm stand on temperance principles regardless of his political future. The residence which stands on the farm was built by MR. ALLINSON'S father, but he himself built the fine barns on the property. JAMES ALLISON was married, Jan. 30, 1889, to FLORENCE MACE, who was born in Clinton county, New York, daughter of JOHN and ADA (BEARDSLEY) MACE. He and his wife have three children: ROBERT M., who served two terms as clerk of Maxville township, and with his brother HAROLD rents the farm of his father; HAROLD ARTHUR, and ANDREW B. ROBERT married ROE L. GOLDEN and has one child, NORMAN R. ANDREW B., who enlisted in U. S. service, is now attending the University of Wisconsin, under the Student's University Training Course. MRS. ALLISON attended the Durand high school and River Falls normal school, and previous to her marriage taught in the district school. ===========================================================================
