H. C. Cooper, Jr. & Co., Winona, MN - 1919 [page 203-204] PETER ACCOLA. Among the thriving farms of Alma township, Buffalo county, lying in section 4, is that of the subject of this sketch, who is a member of a family that has been closely connected with the agricultural interests of this part of the county for many years. He was born in Bangor, Wisconsin, May 19, 1867, son of PAUL and MARIE (SAXER) ACCOLA, natives of Switzer- land, the former of whom came to the United States at the age of 12 years. PAUL ACCOLA and MARIE SAXER were married in Bangor, Wisconsin, in 1856, and remained there until April, 1870, when they bought the farm in Alma township, Buffalo county, on which their son PETER, the subject of this sketch, now resides. Here MRS. MARIE ACCOLA died in 1905, and her husband in 1914. They had nine children: JOHN, PETER, PAUL, EDWIN, USULA, MINNIE, ANNA and ANNETTE (twins), and EMMA. PETER ACCOLA acquired his educa- tion in the country schools and at La Crosse Business College. He helped his father to operate the home farm until 1894, when he and his brother JOHN bought it and worked it together for two years. At the end of that time our subject bought his brother's share and has since been the sole proprietor. The farm contains 400 acres, of which 145 acres are cleared, there being 40 acres of meadow and 215 of woodland. MR. ACCOLA is giving his attention mostly to dairying, having a good herd of Holstein graded cows. His basement barn measures 48 by 60 feet, and he has a good house and outbuildings. As one of the leading and respon- sible citizens of his township he has been called upon to serve in the office of town treasurer, which he has held for the last twelve years, being its present incumbent. His religious affilia- tions are with the Reformed church, and in politics he is a Repub- lican. MR. ACCOLA was married, May 11, 1895, to VIDA PRADER, who was born in Modena township, April 12, 1872, daughter of THOMAS and MARGUERITE (SPRACHER) PRADER. MRS. ACCOLA'S father, who was engaged in farming, died in Modena township in 1890, but her mother is now living in the town of Modena with a son, MARTIN. The children in the PRADER family were: VIDA, now MRS. PETER ACCOLA; MARTIN, who is unmarried; MARY, wife of ANTON MENG, and MARGUERITE, who married ULRICH WALSER. Mr. and Mrs. PETER ACCOLA have had six children, one of whom died at birth. The living are: META, born Feb. 13, 1896; EDGAR, May 14, 1897; ARMIN, March 24, 1899; ESTHER, Feb. 18, 1901, and ALMA, Dec. 2, 1905. ===========================================================================
