Cooper, Jr. & Co., Winona, MN - 1919 [page 202-203] PAUL ACCOLA, who is carrying on a good farming and dairy business in Alma township, Buffalo county, having a farm of 320 acres in section 5, was born in Bangor, Wisconsin, June 15, 1869, son of PAUL and MARIA (SAXER) ACCOLA. The parents, who were married in the United States, were natives of Switzerland, the father coming to this country when 12 years old. He located in Sauk county and from there he moved to Bangor. PAUL ACCOLA, SR., died in 1914, his wife having passed away in 1905. They were the parents of nine children: JOHN, PETER, PAUL, EDWIN, URSULA, MINNIE, ANNA and ANNETTE (twins), and EMMA. PAUL ACCOLA, the subject of this sketch, began his independent career as a farmer when he purchased a farm in section 21, Alma township, which he operated for ten years. Then, in 1909, he bought his present farm of 320 acres, of which 160 acres are cleared, the rest being woodland. His barn, 86 by 40 feet in size, is a modern building with stone basement, and is furnished with steel stan- chions. He has a fine herd of cows, most of which are graded. His silo is a tile structure and his residence is a commodious house of modern type. With such equipment and his knowledge as an expert farmer, he is doing a profitable business and is rapidly advancing in prosperity. MR. ACCOLA was married Oct. 1, 1898, to ANNA D. THOENY, who was born in Nelson township, Dec. 13, 1878, daughter of CHRIS and ANNA (ACCOLA) THOENY. Her father was a native of Switzerland, while her mother was the first white child born in Sauk county, Wisconsin. Mr. and Mrs. THOENY were the parents of eight children: LIBBIE, VALENTINE, CHRISTIAN, MICHAEL, ANNA, BARBARA, JOHN and MICHAEL, who died when two years old, and ALICE E., born April 23, 1917. To Mr. and Mrs. PAUL ACCOLA four children have been born: ELMER A., Sept. 13, 1900; ALVIN W., Jan. 1, 1903; ELLA W., Jan. 5, 1905 (died Feb. 14, 1915), and CLIFFORD E., July 6, 1908. MR. ACCOLA and the surviving members of his family belong to the German Reformed church. ===========================================================================
