George E. Littlefield, Boston, 1908 PREFACE: The first eight-six pages of this volume are reprinted from The Vermont Antiquarian, the publication of which was discon- tinued in March, 1905. The remaining one hundred and twenty pages have not before appeared in print. The volume supplements the "Records of the First Church of Rockingham, Vermont," published in 1902, and the two volumes taken togehter, comprise the vital statistics of the town of Rockingham from the settlement to January 1, 1845, as far as they were recorded by the early ministers and town clerks. In addition to the ordinary vital records, other records, such as "Religious tests," "Warnings out of town," the "Free- man's Roll," and lists of Revolutionary soliders, have been included on account of their historical value. "Warnings out of town" are of especial interest, because they furnish the approximate dates of the arrival of families in town and give the Christian name of the wife, and the names of all the children at the time of arrival. This volume is offered as the attempt of a volunteer to do for a town in Vermont the work which the "New England Historic Genealogical Society" is doing in a systematic way for the towns in Massachusetts. For convenience of reference the Church Records referred to above have been bound with the present volume. THOMAS B. PECK Walpole, N.
