WITHERELL CHARLES R. WITHERELL, a well known and highly respected citizen, died last Thursday morning after a brief illness. MR. WITHERELL was born in Shoreham Oct. 11, 1848, the son of ROYAL and LUCY DOOLITTLE WITHERELL. September 19, 1876, he married ELIZA- BETH, eldest daughter of the late Col. EDWIN S. STOWELL of Cornwall and lived at "Stonehenge," which for many years he owned and occupied. In 1910 he moved to Shoreham to the WITHERELL homestead, which he has since occu- pied. MR. WITHERELL in the days of his activity was among the first to engage in exporting stock and from 1886 up to 1902 was largely engaged in shipping blooded stock to South America, South Africa and Australia. In 1892 he represented the town of Cornwall in the legislature and in 1923 represented Shoreham. In 1925 he was appointed by GOV. BILLINGS to fill the unexpired term of re- presentative, caused by the death of HOWARD BIRCHARD. He leaves be- sides his wife, five sons, STOWELL R. of Shoreham, CHARLES L. of Corn- wall, ALBERT E. of Kewanee, Ill., STANLEY G. of Ticonderoga and HARRY W. of Shoreham, besides several grandchildren. The funeral was held at the Con- gregational church Saturday morning at 10:30 o'clock and was largely attended. Rev. C. B. BLISS officiated, assisted by Rev. JOHN IRONS of Corn- wall. Union lodge, No. 2, F. and A. M., of Middlebury, of which the de- ceased was a member, conducted the burial service. There were many beautiful floral tributes. The bearers were MORRIS BINGHAM, E. H. PEET, B. J. FIELD, JOHN L. DeWITT, E. A. BIR- CHARD and MALCOLM DOUGLAS. Burial was in the family lot in Lake View Cemetery. ===============================================================================
