He had been for many years a member of the Metho- dist church and was respected by all who knew him. He leaves a wife and five sons to mourn his loss. The funeral was held at his late residence Monday afternoon at one o'clock. ----------------------------------------------- One of the strong and forceful characters of town and county passed away last Friday morning, when AMOS ROGERS of Panton, well- known in Vergennes and vicinity, succumbed to a six months illness with cancer of the stomach. MR. ROGERS was 67 years of age and leaves a wife, five sons, JOSEPH of Panton, FREDERICK of Los Angeles, Cal., EDWARD A. of Ferrisburg and WILLIAM and CHARLES of Fitchburg, Mass.; one brother, FRANK ROGERS of Whitehall, N.Y., and one sister, MRS. DANIEL NORTON of Ausable Forks, N.Y. MR. ROGERS was a steward in the Methodist church in Panton at the time of his death, although his earlier life was spent among rough, hard-handed men in the steamboating business, where the deceased spent 40 years of his life as engineer on tug boats and passenger steamers on Lake Champlain and connecting canals. He is said to have al- ways held his own with the best of his associates in whatever field of labor. The funeral was held Monday from his late residence in Panton, Rev. J. Hall Long of Tinmouth officiating. ============================================================================
