MARK FREEMAN at Pittsfield had to be postponed on account of the wanderings of the hearse. It appears that the driver, E. J. RIDLAND, before reaching West Bridgewater on his way from Cuttingsville, took the wrong road, drove through Bridgewater at an indecorous gait - took the hill road to Barnard, through North Bridge- water, and after many a twist and turn, raced into Barnard village, where he was stopped. Near CHARLES SHURTLIFF'S in North Bridgewater it is said that the coffin slipped out of the hearse, and with some help the coffin was replaced and the driver started on again. The hearse traveled about 40 miles in its wanderings. At Barnard Constable J. A. Moore took the hearse in charge and drove it to Pittsfield. The driver claims that he had not been drinking; that he was ill at Cuttingsville before starting, and remembered nothing of his 40-mile trip over the hills. ================================================================================
