JOHNSON was 18 years of age, and had gone down to the wharf with ED HUDWALL, a friend, to see if there was a boat leaving by which he could reach home. Finding none they started to come back. Some freight cars were standing across the avenue. HUDWALL warned JOHNSON not to pass between the cars but he disregarded the warning, and as soon as he got midway the cars the locomotive backed down against them and JOHNSON was caught between the draw heads and badly crushed. He was speedily extricated and conveyed to the hospital. On the way he moaned piteously and expectorated blood profusely, show- ing internal hemorrhage. The only words he uttered were to his friend HUDWALL, saying; "Tell me how I was killed." He lingered in great agony until death put an end to his suf- fering. His remains will be taken to Chambers county for interment. ===============================================================================
