         FEARS ENTERTAINED FOR HIM
         
         THOMAS GATES Disappears After Being Paid $25
         
         THOMAS GATES, an old ex-Confederate soldier,
       who was employed at a fruit stand at the corner
       of McLemore and Church streets, disappeared on
       the afternoon of Dec. 24 and nothing has been
       heard of him since. On the eve of his disappear-
       ance he was paid $25 by his employer. His friends
       fear that he has been foully dealt with from the
       fact that he had the money on him and had told
       no one of his intention to leave the city.
