He emigrated to America in 1860, and settled in Henry county, where he became engaged in teaching, having graduated in Germany. In 1869 he took charge of the Okolona post-office, also was appointed agent of the Wabash Railroad and the U.S. Express Company at the same place, in connection with a general store business. Complying with the demands of the citizens, he also built a steam elevator of 12,000 bushels capacity, which is as yet in full blast under his management. ==========================================================================
