M. TALBOTT, a well known attorney of Galion, and a native of Crestline, as well as a former school teacher here, died at his home in Galion Sunday evening. JOHN MELVIN TALBOTT was born in Crestline, November 15, 1856. He was the son of JOHN R. and SARAH (GILLILAND) TALBOTT. He was but a few days old when his mother died, and he was taken to the home of his grandparents, JOHN and CATHERINE GILLILAND. When the boy was six years of age, the grandparents moved from the Crestline home to a farm two miles south of Galion, and when he was fifteen years of age he went to Galion and entered the public schools. MR. TALBOTT attended the country schools up to the time of his removal to Galion, in about 1872 when he entered the Grammar schools, of that city as a pupil. He entered the high school and finished the prescribed course of study therein, graduating with the class of 1877. Soon thereafter he engaged in the profession of teaching, holding positions in the rural schools near Galion; and was elected to the principalship of the high school in Galion, which position he held until the fall of 1892 when he resigned to accept the superintendency of the schools of West Cleveland. MR. TALBOTT was admitted to the bar in June, 1889. In 1896 he resigned his position in the schools of West Cleveland, returned to Galion, and engaged in the practice of law, which he successfully followed to the time of his death. He was granted a teacher's high school life certificate July 1, 1887. MR. TALBOTT was united in marriage to MISS EVA V. COOPER, in Galion, August 8, 1882, the union being blessed with one son, DEAN C., who has been in the law business with his father since the spring of 1912. The deceased is survived by the widow and son, a half-sister, MRS. G. C. STEARNS, Bluffton, Ohio, an aunt, MRS. MARGARET TUTTLE, of Mt. Gilead. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon. ===============================================================================
