WILLIAM EDIE of Sangerfield, N.Y., was murdered in his bed on Wednesday night. It is believed that EDIE and his wife quarrelled while the husband was intoxi- cated. The wife was roughly handled at first, but ob- taining a whiffl-tree she struck her husband on the head, knocking him down, and so severely beating him that he died on Thursday morning. MRS. EDIE says that near midnight on Wednesday she was awakened by a col- ored man standing by her bed. She ran into an out building and concealed herself until morning. On re- turning to the house she found her husband lying on the bed dying, and a bloody whiffletree by the bed- side. MRS. EDIE has been held for murder. ===========================================================================
