Copyright USGenNet Inc., 2011, All Rights Reserved U.S. Data Repository Please read U.S. Data Repository Copyright Statement on this page: Transcribed and submitted by Linda Talbott for the US Data Repository http://www.us-data.org/ ====================================================================== SERVICE NUMBER New York ABEEL, Garret S28.210 ABELL, Garrett Index: - Vol 2, Page 2 ====================================================================== By his Excellency George Clinton Esquire Governor of the State of New York and Richard Varich of the City of New York Esquire This is to certify that in pur suance of the Law of the State of New York Entitled An Act making provision for Officers Soldiers and Seamen who have been disabled in the Service of the United States Passed the 22nd of April 1786 We have examined Garret Abeel of Catskill in the District of Coxsockie in the County of Albany Merchant and find that during the late war he was a private Soldier in Captain William Sniders Company of the Regiment of Albany County Militia commanded by Colonel Anthony Van Bergen that he was drafted on Duty for a Month under the Command of Lieut David Backer of of Colonel Kromans Regiment, That he was in the Service aforesaid on the Duty afore to wit on the twenty second day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy eight - being sent on a Scout at Schoharykill in the County -------------------------------------------------------------------------- County of Albany aforesaid he was attacked by a Party of the Enemy and received a Wound in his right shoulder by a musket ball by reason whereof he is rendered incapable of obtaining his Livelihood by Labour That on the fifteenth Day of March that he was twenty nine years of age: Wherefore in pursuance of the Law aforesaid we do further certify that upon the principles of the Act of Congress of the seventh day of June 1785 the said Garret Abeel is entitled to receive from the I**sures of this State a yearly Pension of forty eight Dollars Given under our Hands This twentieth Day of September 1786 Geo. Varich State of New York} I Certify that on this 7th day of April 1824 Garret County of Greene } Abeel the person named in the foregoing original certificate came before me and being duly sworn doth depose & say that he is the identical person described & meant in the said certificate and that the said certificate is the same which was originally granted to him as an invalid pensioner Subscribed & Sworn to before me the 7th day of April 1824 J. Hall Clerk County of Greene } of the County of Greene, Do HEREBY CERTIFY, That James Pinckney whose signature is affixed to the certificate of jurat or oath on the annexed instrument, was at the date of the said certificate a Justice of the Peace for Greene County duly commissioned and authorized to take such oath I further certify, that I am acquainted with the hand writing of the said James Pinckney and verily believe the signature affixed to the said certificate to be in the proper hand writing of the said James Pinckney IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I have set my hand and affixed the seal of the Court of Common Pleas for the said county of Greene hereto, this 7th day of April 1824 Elisha D. The Officer who Pays the Pensioners in New York has Directed him to Send his Original Certificate to Washington and Request a New Certificate under the Present fo*** ******** for this I do not understand but Presume it is Some new Regulation at the Ward Department, will you have the Goodness to obtain for him the necessary Papers and Enclose the Same to me, Should the Papers Enclosed not be Sufficient or Incorrect have the Goodness to Send me the necessary Instructions what Steps to Take to Procure the Proper Certificate, and whatever Trouble or Expenses you may be at in this ********* be Cheefully Paid when you Return, Yours Respectfully Cha's C.
